Carty & Noe, Redux

As evidenced by an article published in The Blade, and using Carty Finkbeiner's own campaign finance reports, my claim that Carty was seeking to enlist Tom Noe in his mayoral campaign clearly stands. According to Finkbeiner's spokesman, Carty's campaign invited Noe to the Navy Bistro. According to The Blade, Carty's campaign circulated forms asking guests, including TOM NOE, what they would be willing to contribute to help the unannounced, yet clearly active, Carty for Mayor campaign. Its all documented. I stand by my charge. And I would have loved to explain my position to the so-called, self-appointed "Clean Campaign" Committee if they had ever bothered to ask me, and not merely accepted the hokum lobbed from the Finkbeiner camp. There is no factual evidence by Carty or his campaign to dispute my claim that Carty & his campaign were seeking the support of Tom Noe - weeks into the scandal. It is a reflection of Carty's desperate quest for campaign cash and lack of Democratic bona fides.

I noted the Carty courtship of Noe way back in May. Click here for another previous Carty & Noe blog entry.

After reading the "Clean Campaign" Committee's Press Release earlier this evening, where they pass judgment on my statement without ever attempting to communicate with me, I called Rev. Blaine, the spokesperson for the committee. He apologized to me for the lack of communication and acknowledged that I should have been invited to present to the committee. After I explained that I had public documents to back up my claim - and that Carty doesn't - he agreed that his committee would revisit their decision at their next opportunity.

Ya know Frank - you'd think you would have learned from the 2004 presidential election that if all you can do is run down the opponent, you'll lose - and badly.

Count the Anti-Carty postings you've made out here and compare them with the Pro-Ford ones you've placed.

How bout instead of telling us everything there is to know about Carty, you tell us some things there are to know about Ford - if there are any.

I cant stand carty. But he will be the next mayor of toledo because he has no competition.

What I learned from the 2004 elections, and every election, is to back up political claims with good evidence. People doubt Carty sought Noe's support even as Noe was being investigated for fleecing injured workers. There is no doubt Carty sought Noe's help - weeks after The Blade exposed Noe's scheme.

"What I learned from the 2004 elections, and every election, is to back up political claims with good evidence"

Then why has the Clean Campaign Committee "Rebuked" the Ford campaign over the issue?

Because the CCC never asked the Ford campaign nor yours truly to present the public documents that back up my statement - they simply bought the Finkbeiner hokum hook, line & sinker.

the article says that "The committee held an hourlong hearing yesterday to hear from both sides"

you must not have gotten the memo. OR the Blade could be mis-reporting things to further their own agenda.

Frank, you really should spend some time looking over your blog. Billy makes a valid point - you spend way too much time talking about Carty and not enough about Ford. The Noe connection isn't going to swing the election, so get over it. In the early days of the Ford re-election campaign, I remember being told that Jack has done many great things for the city, people just don't know about them because it's not Jack's style to go around touting his own accomplishments. That's fine, I can respect that. But it's a month until the election and we still don't know jack about Jack. What are you people waiting for? Beating Carty should be like shooting fish in a barrel, but all you're doing is shooting yourself in the foot.

Your claim that Carty was seeking to enlist Tom Noe (and every other voter in Toledo) in his mayoral campaign clearly stands.

Your claim serves as an example of what is wrong with politics.

Politicians, like you, who use half-truths to discredit their opponents.

Until now, I characterized this as race between the Political Dwarves Lazy and Crazy. Now I think Sleazy and Crazy is more appropriate. I am sure it will only get worse.

Thank you Frank, for living down to my expectations.

Its not a half truth, but a documented fact. Let it sink in.

So frank was this lunch an intimate little affair with just the two of them plotting away, or were there a HUNDRED businessmen invited where ALL of them were asked to contribute??

Even if your claims are 100% accurate, it doesn't change the fact that the claim is still a poisoning the well-style fallacy. Given that Ford signed an agreement where he pledged, among other things, to not use personal attacks and innuendo in the campaign, the committee is correct and nothing you've written here should change their minds.

Sorry Nick, I disagree. Drawing distinctions between candidates is what campaigns are for - Carty & the Kest gang invited Tom Noe to support his campaign, weeks into the scandal. Kind of judgment you want on 22?

Frank - are you sure those invitations werent sent out BEFORE the news broke in the blade?

Perhaps Carty wasnt paying attn to everything that was published out there - after all, you imply that the blade story on ford's team's rebuke is erroneous...

frank, what you don't get is that cartys lunch thing with the 100 businessmen including noe was on april 28. the blade 'investigation' started on april 3. by the 28th there were no allegations of stealing or anything else by noe, only criticism that the state would go into a risky investment like coins. so at that time noe was just a succesful businessman in the area so why was it a crime to invite him to a lunch with a bunch of others?

also what good is it doing to keep atacking the other guy? don't you have anything good to say about you're guy? cheap dirty politics frank. thats why the clean campaign guys busted you.

The kind of leadership I want is someone who will abide by the agreements they signed. As stated by the Blade:

"The committee agreed that Mr. Noe had been invited, along with more than 100 other business people, to a breakfast in April paid for by Mr. Finkbeiner's campaign, but said that was not enough to establish a political relationship.

It said that "the attempted linkage" violates the clean campaign rule against using personal attacks and innuendo to demean an opponent."

Trying to tie Carty to Noe and the ongoing scandel clearly qualifies as innuendo. Unless you had no intentions of damaging Carty's public image, then what you've written previously constitutes a violation of that pledge.

Sorry, runnindog, but Noe was in major hot water by April 28.

It's just that Taft had not bailed out on him yet; the GOP was the last to admit that Noe had problems.

Frank's comments about Carty are factual, despite any political motivations he might have.

Show us otherwise, if you doubt it.

1. Carty met with Noe, albeit at a breakfast with other business-minded people (take that with a grain of salt; everyone there knew they were attending a Carty fuundraising operation)
2. At this point, Noe was a commodity too hot for Carty to be associating with. Someone in his camp should have called Noe and asked him to stay away.
3. Carty (or his people) should have had enough common sense to see this one coming and react in time. They didn't, and now he gets to answer why he sought out Noe's support.

Ive been reading all over this blog and I dont see a whole lot of people that are head over heels pro carty - -

that being said who we gonna vote for? Nobody'll talk about Ford.

Remember, the anybody but Bush campaign fell flat on its face - if we play anybody but Carty, that'll happen again.

You dont win campaigns by ONLY denigrating your competition.

Frank - I dont know if you've ever had to interview for a real job, but trust me, if you stick to saying zero about yourself and only run down the guys you know are also applying for the position, I guarantee you'll have the employer's flat forgetting about you and looking real close at the other guy.

It works in politics too. Sometimes a background in something other than politics helps. Of course neither candidate has that, so I guess Im just talking to air here...

You know Frank, you really don't demonstrate that you have learned anything over the years. You repeat the same tired old talking points and offer the same empty ideas for Toledo. If you haven't noticed (and I'm fairly sure you haven't) the only reason half the people in politics are there is because; 1) they have no marketable skills, 2) really good people can't stand the thick headedness of the average politician, and 3)talented and intelligent people have other things in their lives that give them power and the only thing most politician have is their political position. Poor little Toledo councilman, do you really think you're smart enough to fool people outside Toledo?

I guess I could come up with a fake name like Wizard and post dumb stuff to make myself feel like a tough guy - wish I had thought of that first.

I understand Carty was bragging at an event at the Toledo Club last night about welcoming George W. Bush to Toledo during the waning days of his last term as Mayor - and taking Mayor Ford to task for not doing the same. Ford is the only real Democrat in the race.
