Bring It On!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 14, 2005

Reform Group Offers
Former Modell Aide
A Free Trip to Baltimore

The grassroots organization trying to clean up state government is offering a free airplane ticket to Baltimore to the chief spokesman for the other side.

Reform Ohio Now is offering David Hopcraft a Southwest Airlines ticket to Baltimore, where the Browns will play the Ravens on Sunday.

“We wanted to be nice and reunite Mr. Hopcraft with his old boss, Art Modell,” said Steve Fought, spokesman for the reform group.

Hopcraft is spokesman for Ohio First, the organization that is organizing against State Issues 2, 3, 4 and 5. He previously worked for disgraced former Cleveland Browns owner Art Modell, who betrayed the city and moved the team to Baltimore in 1996.

Modell has sold the majority interest in the Ravens, but retains a small ownership portion and has an office at Ravens headquarters in Maryland.

Just one catch, Fought said: "It's a one-way ticket."

Hopcraft, Brian Hicks and P.J. Wenzel (Fritz's son) are among those working to defend the pay-to-play, Tom Noe status quo here in Ohio - attempting to defeat the RON amendments. They are about to launch a counterstrike TV ad campaign using the same sleaze-meisters responsible for the Swift Boat ads attacking Purple Heart veteran John Kerry last year.

Ah, yes, that slime group of Swiftboaters still tugs at my heart.

What is so interesting now, Frank, is that the American public is finally arousing from its GOP operative-hypnotic slumber and they are realizing how thoroughly duped they were when they voted to keep this GOP reich in power.

These mornings I can't wait to get the newest GOP indictment or subpoena. Seems like it is a one-a-day event. I would smile at it all, yet the realization of the massive damage that these shysters have caused to our nation quickly sobers me up.

Was it the GOP kool-aid that they served to the public? Was it the GOP operatives like Clear Channel and our local WSPD Radio that spewed forth the propaganda? Was it the lack of courage in the press? Was it the apathy of the voters?

Well, whatever it was, it seems that the majority of Americans are now realizing what a horrid mistake they made by allowing the right-wing Republicans another term in office. God only knows what our nation will look like when Bush and his cronies leave office in January 2009.

To the ordinary, old-fashioned Republicans out there I ask this: why was it that you allowed this gang of right-wing neocons to usurp the Grand Old Party of Eisenhower and Robert Taft. Sr.? I suspect that it boils down to this: you needed to 'win' at the polls after years of being the 'minority party.' Winning became everything to you. And, obviously, any sleaze ball who could win for you was just fine with you.

Am I correct? How sad, and just think of the major damage that 'winning at any price' has caused our nation.

As many of you know, the Reform Ohio Now amendments are critically important voting reforms that are going to be in front of Ohio voters on November 8th.
We need your help to pass these measures. Even if you don't live in Ohio, you can help us make phone calls to Ohio voters. All you need is a connection to the internet and a phone to call with. This would be a great way to use up your free weekend minutes and help a worthy cause at the same time.
To join the fight against corruption in Ohio, please become a virtual phonebanker. After we have collected a group together, you will get an email explaining what/how/when the process will work. Thank you for your help in this important effort!

Frank, what is your preocupation with this Reform Ohio Now stuff. There is a rumor out there that your consulting company is getting paid for your work on this campaign. Is that true? I hope not because that would look really bad.
