Yet another promise from Ford. Let's take bets whether this one happens.

A few quotes from the article show this a long way off:

"The thing is, it's all still very much in flux," Ms. Holland told The Blade in her first public disclosure of how the new center might look. She has been guarded in commenting on the plans, even after a top Costco Wholesale Corp. executive told The Blade this month that his West Coast firm was certain it would have a store open in Westgate within two years...

[Two years from now? Sounds like more hollow promises...]

Construction for the new plan could begin in May, which includes demolishing the entire center, Ms. Holland said.

[Begin next year, more hollow promises]

But the redevelopment process has not been finalized.

["Not finalized"? More hollow promises...]

That uncertainty frustrates Robert Sones, co-owner of Gen's Hallmark card store in Westgate.

Not a whole lot to get excited about. Where was this two years ago. Carty would have had this DONE -- not promised -- last year.

Carty, and his folks like you, are against Costco & these union jobs, not to mention getting in the way of respected, quality businesspeople. Get it done? He's threatening its success.

Contrary to the above posting, this project doesn't have Jack Ford's fingerprints anywhere on it, so I like the chances of this one actually happening.

Ya know - you cant drive the streets of toledo without seeing the bumper of a pickup or car in front of you with both pro-union and anti-walmart bumper stickers on it. The anti walmart stickers say "WALMART SUCKS - the life out of a community..." Complaining that the big walmart store forces out the little guy...

Ok, that being the case, I wonder why then its OK to bring in a big UNION store? I guess if its union, the little guy can go pound sand eh?

This town needs to stop catering to the union mindset so we can get on with the business of moving ahead.

Today's Blade article highlighting the loss of 11% of our white collar jobs, coupled with this announcement of tearing down what was an upscale shopping center to make room for a discount store and a gas station speak loud and clear that our current leadership has hitched its wagon to the wrong (union) pony, and is dragging us the wrong way -> down.

OK, moron.

I'll work at Costco and make $16 an hour.

You work at Wal-Mart.
