Wilkowski torpedoes Carty

I support Mayor Ford, and he certainly can beat Finkbeiner this fall - but Keith Wilkowski's surprise entry should force Carty out of the mayor's race. Republican Rob Ludeman's entry earlier this spring frustrated Finkbeiner's pursuit of Republican campaign money (Remember his courting of Coingate kingpin Tom Noe?) and locked up the bulk of GOP primary voters for the certified Republican, not the former Republican. That meant Finkbeiner was going to have to attempt to split the middle, focusing on white ethnic Democrats and court African-Americans against all odds. Unfortunately for Carty, he has always done far better among African Americans than among those white ethnic votes, so his chances against Ford were never as good as early polling suggested. Wilkowski in the race absolutely hurts Finkbeiner's totals in the white, ethnic Democratic precincts - Jack Ford will carry the African-American precincts big.

Bad news for the Kest gang hoping to flip from the Treasurer's office to the Mayor's office. Carty's decision to abandon the race leaves them flat.

Less than 30 days till the filing deadline.

Sources say Carty is officially announcing his candidacy Monday. This is going to be fun.

Heh, heh, heh! When has Carty NOT been fun(ny)? I never laughed so hard in my life at some of his clown like antics. I loved the Kirk cartoon when Carty went to Finkbeiner, Germany and the whole town looked like him and were cursing at each other. Love the gut or hate the guy, he provided more coffee pot conversations than any other mayor in Toledo history. "Dija hear what YOUR mayor said yesterday?". I'm laughing just thinking about it! Carty may not win the election but, he will make it interesting for all of us!

Yep 'Sepp,' Carty will make it interesting all right... fact is though that my family and I already have plenty of entertainment already. I don't need the Mayor's race for more. I need that race to bring hope, keep jobs, and protect families.

Personally, Carty does as much for Toledo as John Denver or Burt Bacharach did in their songs. With all of them, I'd be better off being hearing impaired and living by the airport. Thanks Carty for that idea.

I think old Samuel "Golden Rule" Jones wins the prize for providing the most 'coffee pot' conversations in Toledo politics. In a close second would be a three way race between the Purple/Licovoli gangs, Tom Noe, and Finkbeiner...

So nice when local politics is transparent... you get to see the real flakes in a real hurry. Snow in June... or are those flakes Carty et al? I'll have to check the Wither Channel for that one...

Hey Dan, you forgot Ed Emery and Opal Covey! Gotta have some nuts to go with the flakes!

Ok Sepp, kind of funny... but I am a mental health professional. I prefer to not make fun of folks or use the term "nuts." I do enjoy seeing Opal's car every now and then... she does say what she thinks, odd or not, its her right and that is what I love about our country.

and being anonymous isn't a right? You really need to stop being specific as to freedom, Dan. America is a place to express yourself anonymously :)

Being anonymous is a right, I just do not think it is very responsible or brave.

This is a new virtual world that our founding fathers never even imagined. However, every single person who signed thier name to the Declaration of Independence risked thier very lives to do so as it was considered treason by the King. I don't expect us to risk our lives on this blog, but come on, if you think its important enough to share, put your name to it. Vote anonymously, speak honorably.

Your opinion means squat to me in my world, Dan. You have no credibility.

Not sorry you're not invited either.
